City College of New York and Sciame Team Up at the 2011 Solar Decathlon

This past October The City College of New York was one of 20 colleges selected throughout the world to participate in the Department of Energy’s biannual Solar Decathlon Competition. This competition challenges these selected schools to design, build and operate solar-powered houses that are cost effective, energy- efficient and attractive. With the help of Sciame’s Construction and CM services, City College aka “Team New York” successfully developed, built and shipped down a Solar Roof Pod concept that was displayed on the National Mall in Washington, DC.

The Sciame team would like to thank all who helped out with this successful project, especially Turner Construction, TDX Construction, STV Inc., Five Star Electric, WDF Mechanical Inc, Schneider Electric, Cardella Waste Services and The NY Roofing Company.

New Museum of Contemporary Art

The New Museum of Contemporary Art and Sciame Construction are proud to announce the opening of Carsten Holler’s 2 story slide exhibition which was recently installed inside…that’s right…inside the building’s gallery floors. How did a two story slide fit into an already existing building you ask? Sciame was assigned the task of removing two sections of concrete floor, one at the fourth floor and one at the third floor, which allowed sections of the slide to be lowered and pieced together.

The 102ft slide is on display from October 26th, 2011 to January 15th, 2012 along with Carsten’s other creative artwork that has been produced over the past 18 years. And yes, you are allowed to ride the slide!
