Sciame was the Construction Manager responsible for the construction of this new out-of-the-ground 4-story 30,000 SF building. Named the Manufacturers & Builders Building (“M&B”), the all-glass four story structure is located in the heart of Manhattan’s “Decorator and Design” district.
The project consisted of all necessary core and shell elements and systems including a custom curtain wall and storefront on both the Third Avenue and 57th Street elevations, as well as a 4th floor terrace space. The building’s curtain wall system is energy efficient and allows for expansive views of the city.
To maximize that open-air effect, the exterior was designed so that the space between the ground-floor concrete to the glass walls is only eight inches.
Sciame is honored to have served as the construction manager for the expansion and refurbishment of The Frick Collection, working alongside Selldorf Architects and Beyer Blinder Belle to bring this vision to life. As the museum prepares to reopen next month, we’re pleased to see this project receive high praise in The New York Times from esteemed architecture critic Michael Kimmelman.
