Sciame was the Construction Manager responsible for the construction and renovation of the 401 West 14th Street project located in the heart of the Meat Packing District. The project redeveloped an existing three-story warehouse building into high-end commercial space. The design included the addition of a 10,000 SF rooftop penthouse wrapped in a custom aluminum and glass curtainwall system. Since this project is in a NYC landmark district, strict guidelines had to be followed for the exterior restoration of the project in terms of the brick color, mortar color, window replacement, storefront design, and various small details that make this building unique.
The major design goal was to restore 401 W. 14th Street to its original beauty, while increasing the square footage of the building and integrating modern amenities. The building underwent facade replacement, structural improvements, window replacements and new curtainwall. One of the more unique aspects to this project is the 1500 SF of corrugated glass which was used to clad the existing steel canopy structure. The finished product is a beautiful glass canopy, which gives the building a very elegant and updated look, while maintaining the roots of the building’s history.
