Sciame was the Construction Manager responsible for the construction of a New Academic Complex for CUNY’s New York City College of Technology, strategically situated across from the main campus. This project involved the demolition of pre-existing structures to pave the way for a state-of-the-art science and health-related facility. The new building features a range of technologically advanced instructional spaces designed to support hands-on learning and innovation. Among its notable components are a 1,000-seat auditorium to host lectures and events, a full-size gymnasium, and specialized science labs equipped to meet rigorous academic and research demands.
To enhance the building’s accessibility and functionality, a small parking garage with a capacity for approximately 25 vehicles is integrated below grade. Constructing the garage and foundation below grade presented challenges, particularly in coordinating the excavation, waterproofing, and structural reinforcement while maintaining close coordination with the city’s infrastructure requirements. The complex building systems, including advanced HVAC, electrical, and data infrastructure, were carefully installed to support both the high-traffic academic environment and the specialized needs of health science programs.
