Sciame was the Construction Manager responsible for the demolition of an existing 4-story townhouse in the Upper East Side. A new 10,000 SF, 6-story new construction of a townhouse designed by Rafael Viñoly Architects, which encompasses 3 stories of commercial space and 4 stories of a single-family private residence.
The principal design feature of the building was a frameless glass façade consisting of 15 curved panels each with multiple radii. Additional design features include a triple height commercial space as well as a double height residential space. The residential space also includes an 18 foot wide Vitrosca sliding door that leads out to an outdoor terrace; the townhouse provides and outdoor roof terrace as well.
The New Victory Theater – Originally built in 1900 as The Republic, the first performing arts venue on 42nd Street, the theater was transformed into The New Victory in 1995, becoming New York’s first theater for children and families. The renovation uncovered and restored original architectural elements, added a new lobby carved from the existing structure and bedrock, rebuilt the historic staircase, and created space for much-needed restrooms. A rear wing was added for backstage access, dressing rooms, workshops, and a loading dock, while new elevators and rooftop HVAC systems were integrated to meet modern needs of the historic theater.
