Sciame was the Construction Manager responsible for the 35,000 SF addition / 50,000 SF renovation of the Museum of the Moving Image. The building addition was constructed adjacent to the existing structure, and features a state of the art metal panel exterior façade, streamlined modern interiors, as well as a 10,000 SF outdoor courtyard theater.
The new expansion’s structural system consisted of a steel frame and concrete decking. Concrete underpinning and foundations support this frame, as well as allow the Museum to house its new mechanical equipment in a newly created cellar space.
Interior work included digital media galleries, new theaters, and a 300-seat, state of the art screening room, education centers and a completely interactive 3-D gallery. The gallery will allow visitors to fully immerse themselves into art and even star in their own video games with CAVE (computer aided virtual environment) technology. The MoMI is one of only three public places in the world offering this new technology and is the only museum of its kind in the United States.
