Sciame is the Construction Manager responsible for the renovation of two interconnected landmark buildings, the Frick Collection and the Frick Art Reference Library, located between 70th and 71st Streets on Fifth Avenue.
The Frick Collection, which has housed Henry Frick’s private art collection since the 1930s, is undergoing its first comprehensive renovation. This project includes a complete mechanical system overhaul, expanding the total square footage by 10%, and adding 30% more gallery space. It encompasses all types of construction, including excavation, new construction, gut renovation, restoration, and conservation.
The project involves creating new exhibition, programming, and conservation spaces within the institution’s footprint. Approximately 35,000 SF of new construction includes a small extension and expansion both above and below the existing building. Close coordination with ownership, the design team, and trades has been crucial to addressing the project’s complexities and meeting the client’s needs.
