At the heart of our work at Sciame is a commitment to helping others and a belief that great design can transform lives.
In 2012, Joseph Mizzi, President & COO of Sciame Construction, co-founded the 14+ Foundation to provide quality education to children in rural underserved communities in Zambia. Leading NYC architects, engineers and designers provided full design services for 14+ Foundation’s two school campuses that now serve over 600 students with no-cost education: Mwabwindo School and the Chipakata Children’s Academy. Student uniforms are designed and produced by Studio 189.
Mwabwindo School, winner of the Panerai Design Miami / Visionary Award, opened in 2018 and marked our first partnership with Selldorf Architects - one that would later evolve into the transformative renovation and expansion of The Frick Collection in New York.
Chipakata Children’s Academy, designed by Susan Rodriguez, Frank Lupo, Randy Antonio Lott and Fabian Bedolla opened in 2015. The project received multiple honors, including the AIA New York - Honor Award, the AIA NY State - Award of Merit, Architizer - Impact in Design Award, and SARA NY - Design Award of Excellence.
Engineering services for both projects were overseen by Nat Oppenheimer at Silman (now TYLin), whose involvement was instrumental in bringing these campuses to life.

Buy Low, Build Tall – At Sciame Construction and Sciame Development, we took on one of our most ambitious concepts with the visionary 80 South Street Tower, designed in partnership with world-renowned architect Santiago Calatrava. This striking 835-foot-tall residential tower was imagined for the East River waterfront, just steps from the World Trade Center. The design featured twelve modular “Townhouses in the Sky”, each a 45-foot cube cantilevered from the tower’s slender vertical axis, offering residents a one-of-a-kind living experience with breathtaking views and expansive terrace gardens. At Sciame, we have always embraced the challenge of pushing the boundaries of design and construction in New York City....
