Sciame was the Construction Manager responsible for the construction of the Collegiate School’s new nine-story facility, designed to accommodate grades K through 12. The building features a steel-framed structure with concrete floor slabs, allowing for flexible layouts to meet the various needs of educational spaces. High-performance curtain walls and windows maximize natural light while providing excellent thermal insulation.
The construction included specialized areas such as state-of-the-art science labs equipped with advanced mechanical and electrical systems to support lab safety and functionality, as well as a theater with acoustical treatments and modern lighting, sound, and AV systems to host performances and assemblies. The gymnasium was constructed with regulation-grade flooring and equipment, meeting professional standards for sports activities. The orchestra room and library incorporated soundproofing measures to ensure an optimal acoustic environment for learning and performing. The dining area was equipped with a commercial kitchen featuring energy-efficient appliances and robust ventilation systems. Construction also required extensive coordination to meet the stringent requirements of the NYC Department of Education and building codes, including ADA compliance.
The project’s mechanical systems included an innovative chilled beam heating and cooling system integrated with an ice storage facility, ensuring energy efficiency and reduced operational costs. The two outdoor play areas required significant landscaping efforts, with custom play equipment installations and sustainable drainage systems to manage stormwater effectively.
